Day 21 Blog Challenge - My Biggest Fear

31 Day Blog Challenge - March

Gertrude the Spider - She was bigger than my hand.

What Do I Fear?

I hate to admit this, but I fear a lot of things. I try not to think of things that scare me, because 99% of the time those fears will never actually happen.

Ridiculous Fears:

I am scared of aliens. More like the idea of aliens. I can't even watch E.T. because I will have nightmares.

I'm scared of spiders. Not just big spiders, all spiders. One time while walking on a trail at Riverside Park my friends and I came across a spider that was bigger than my hand, and it had an egg sac beneath it. Until that day I never knew there spiders that large in this area of Canada.

In 2009 I spent an entire year terrified I was going to die from a brain aneurysm. I went to the E.R. twice, and even made my doctor give me a CAT scan. Eventually I found out that all of those headaches were a result from having TMJD.

Realistic Fears:

I'm a little bit scared of going to college. I have no idea what to expect, or how I will be able to manage school, raising Sidney and continuing my hobbies. I think it's normal to be a little bit scared of such a big change/challenge.

I'm super, duper shy. I hate meeting new people, I hate public speaking, I almost passed out during every high school presentation. I don't like being the center of attention, I don't like people looking at me when I'm out in public.

Fears I Try Not to Think About:

As a parent I'm always worried that something bad might happen to Sidney. That she might get hurt, or sick, someone might take advantage of her, or other kids will hurt her feelings and the list can go on and on. Obviously these are fears I try not to think about, but sometimes I can't help it.

What are you afraid of?

  1. Pretty much all bugs. But I'm also scared of freelancing full-time. The loss of security, I guess. It's something I'm working on.

    1. Freelance work sounds kind of scary to me, too because of the security thing.

  2. I loved that you categorized your fears! HILARIOUS. Nightmares from ET? Wow... that's wild... I just don't get it at all...

I will validate your brain aneurysm thing. My aunt HAD ONE and died... and then a couple years later I developed all these migraines and stuff... so I did what you did... (but it was an MRI)... and found out... a) I'm one of the few women in the world that has PROOF she has a brain and b) I get to suffer with migraines. :(

    1. I know, I really don't get the ET thing either. He's just so creepy looking with his extendable neck, and long fingers.

My dad and my nana both died from brain aneurysms, too. An MRI was next on my list, but then I found out all of my headaches are from having TMJD. That's unfortunate you have to deal with migraines.

  3. That spider grosses me out! yuck What is TMJD? I too thought I had a blood clot and would drop dead one day from a brain aneurysm because I have migraines all the time and so I complained enough to my doc that he gave me an MRI and found nothing, so that eased my fear.... a little lol

    1. TMJD stands for Temporomandibular Disorders. And it's basically a problem with your jaw that causes chronic headaches, pain in the jaw mauscles, neck and shoulders, and a bunch more things.

It's nice to hear I'm not the only one who got worried about that. It's a scary thought.

  5. I have two grown adult sons that hate spiders. And I think that no fear is ridiculous!

  6. We all have fears, and probably more fears than we care to admit! Of course you'll be nervous about college and the first day of classes, but I'm sure you'll do just fine. You're going to surprise yourself with how much you can take on and multi-task. =0)

One of my fears: I won't go swimming in the ocean too far out from the shore. Nope...Just won't do it.

    Have a great day,

    1. Thank you :)

I don't blame you for not wanting to swim too far from shore! I heard it's easy to get pulled out.

  7. Ok, first thing. A fear of spiders is not ridiculous. Some are poisonous and I'm pretty sure it's just instinct that causes most of us to fear them.

Second thing, I am so totally there with you on public speaking, presentations and being the center of attention. It's one of the things that scares me about going back to school too!

    1. Lol! I guess that is true. And then there was this article in my local newspaper last summer that said people were finding black widow spiders in their grapes at the grocery store! I didn't eat grapes for a long time.

Doesn't it just suck being scared of public speaking? Life would be so much easier if I weren't.

  8. Spiders are a realistic fear, because you don't know which ones can kill you. Plus anything that hangs out in dark places or in your house, is scary. Plus, the way they move, those suckers are fast!

School - The only thing I can offer is that there are other people who have that exact same fear, and some will be in your classes. I was an 'older' student (25) when I went back to college and I met some great people. I thought I was only going to meet fresh out of high school kids, and I did meet some of those, but for the most part they were people my age.

I am in complete agreement on the fear of something happening to your child. I have the exact same fear. I try not to think about it either, but then I will read something and it makes me have an anxiety attack.

    1. I agree! I guess fearing spiders is a realistic fear.

That is one part I was worried about, being the oldest in my class with a bunch of not-yet-mature 18/19 year olds, and not having any friends or acquaintances to talk to in class.

I think every parent probably has those fears. I stopped watching/listening/reading the news after I had a child.

  9. Love your list Cole.

That spider is pretty creepy. But E.T.? Someday we're going to get you to watch it BWA HA AH.

The an fear of an aneurysm is completely logical. Aneurysms took your Nana and your Dad. Their lives were cut too short.

I am afraid of the dark - always have been. My Mom said that I saw my shadow disappear under my bed when I was about two and I have been afraid ever since.

Rodents - they freak me out. Worse than snakes.

    1. Sidney has already made me watch it multiple times, and each time I try to sit there and look like I'm not terrified. Lol!

Good, I'm not the only "adult" who's afraid of the dark. How does a two year old see their shadow go under the bed? That's kind of creepy.

I like rodents! And snakes :)

  10. ALOHA....I hate spiders too! I really really hate them! I think my worse strange fear..okay beside the normal ones that is, is getting a turkey neck. I know weird...my husband laughs at me...but that is my fear!

And I think I know what you're talking about with the turkey neck thing. My mom and I were just talking about that yesterday actually lol! I think it's a normal fear for most women.
